Holy socks

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Becoming a god-father’s a pretty special moment for a guy.  And pretty special moments demand pretty special socks.  So, I was pleased to find that my fellow g-father – Charlie B – was sporting a pretty darn fine sock n’ shoe combo for mighty Milo’s christening.

It’s a case of SPOTTED a fine pair of red Pantherella’s ACCOMPANIED BY a pair of tan Crockett and Jones loafers, off-set by an achingly just-short pair of jeans.  Mmmmm – possibly the ultimate Christening-combo.

Soho socks #2

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Out last Thursday night I was out for my colleague Darren’s leaving drinks in Soho, and got chatting socks to Justin @ NMA. It turns out that Justin too is a bit of a sock-lover, who was sporting a fairly bombastic Paul Smith sock n’shoe combo.

So it’s a case of SPOTTED Paul Smith stripey socks ACCOMPANIED BY a pair of white Paul Smith loafers.

Election socks

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

What kind of socks are suitable for something as serious as voting in an election?  Well, I decided to go for a pair of supremely bold and very serious looking red Pantherellas. Though my socks may have been Labour red, my vote was of an entirely different colour . . .

So it’s a case of red Pantherellas SPOTTED at St. Andrew’s Primary School in Stockwell – aka my Polling Station – ACCOMPANIED by a gym full of other voters!

Yellow Uniqlo’s SPOTTED Soho

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Everyday I go for an afternoon swim at the ThirdSpace gym.  And everyday I walk past the Nigel Hall shop on Broadwick / Poland Street, and in recent weeks have noticed one of the shop assistants sporting an array of colourful socks.  So, today I decided to stop and take a photo of them.

SPOTTED a pair of natty canary yellow Uniqlo socks SPORTED by Rob (the shop assistant) @ Nigel Hall Soho.  Rob’s Uniqlo’s were ACCOMPANIED by a pair of black Top Shop brogue loafers.   It’s all in all a classy sock / shoe combo on a recession-busting budget.

I’m super excited about our first guest sock entry from @Deluxeduck in Australia – who’s SPOTTED wearing a superb pair of “bishop’s magenta” knee-highs bought from the Pope’s favorite sock shop in Rome ACCOMPANIED by a pair of tan Gucci tattoo shoes. Mmmmm – a truly tasty sock combo . . .

N.B. if you’ve got a pair of socks you’re proud of – do send in a photo so I can feature you as a guest sockman!

Paul smith turf green’s road test

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I’ve been kinda excited about giving my new pair of Paul Smith turf green – Wembley turf green -  socks a good run in.  So yesterday I unveiled, de-labelled and slipped them on . . . and the verdict was . . . well, surprising.  Surprising because they were surprisingly stocking-thin.  Thinness in socks is generally a good thing, as it means they slip effortlessly into shoes.  However, the difficulty with thin socks is that they can slide down unless they’re well elasticated – a bit like women’s stockings.  And in this case my new Paul Smith’s are a tad lacking in the elasticity stakes – meaning they tend to flag a little – a trait which will no doubt get worse with age and washing . . .

That said, they had a good run in – crowned by a trip to Japanese ad agency Dentsu’s new London Office (just off Oxford street) – an apt first visit given the Japanese love of Paul Smith . . .

Some Paul Smith Turf Green socks @ Dentsu’s 2 day old London office (with striking lime-green flooring)
