Christmas this year was spent split between Luxembourg with my sister and lil niece India, and SockGirl’s family @Lewins. Amongst my favorite presents was a copy of the Sartorialist – a compilation of all the best bits from the sartorially awesome blog.

Monday, December 13th, 2010“Flying high in my superman socks . . . blue socks on my douche feet”. I haven’t a clue what this means, however these guys are seriously fun + amusing . . .
Paul Smith’s in Paris
Tuesday, December 7th, 2010Sock art
Sunday, October 24th, 2010Me and Sock Girl spent last Sunday wondering around the Frieze Art Fair (Regent’s Park, London), indulging in some art-therapy. Not a great deal excited me, however I did come across a couple of sock-themed art pieces, which seemed to sate both my love of socks and art at the same time – though I held off any sock art investments as I like to keep the two fairly separate for the moment. One for the future maybe . . .
One from Lothar Baumgarten (untitled) . . .
And another, which I’ve (wittily) called “Stuck between a sock and a hard place”, from Gabriel Kuri . . .

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010Pope + Fashion week socks
Monday, September 20th, 2010If you were around certain parts of London this weekend, there were two things you couldn’t avoid 1) The Pope 2) Fashion week – and with both came hoards of pilgrims, some better dressed than others . . . As both a Catholic and a lover of fashion, I decided to do a bit of both on Saturday, so popped down to Buckingham Palace to see the Pope and then onto Pyrenex’s Dover Street pop-up shop for a Fashion Week party.
So the big question was – what kind of sock is reverent enough for an audience with the Pope, whilst fashionable enough for an audience of a 100 fashionistas? The answer is of course a pair of this season’s Richard James turquoise and red spot socks:
Whilst at the Pyrenex party, I bumped into another (more prolific) fashion blogger by the name of 5inchandup (Sandra), who was sporting a fabulous pair of olive Acne boots (together with invisible socks – see below). Sandra’s tip for an emerging sock trend was *socks with holes* – something to look out for in the upcoming season . . .
Ayame sock road-test
Friday, August 6th, 2010Thanks to the wonderful Sock Girl, I’m now the proud owner of a pair of Ayame socks. Ayame are a boutique Japanese brand, who produce some pretty special socks.
So my first day out in my new pair of Ayame’s was pretty exciting. Similar to Tabio (another Japanese brand) man-made fibres are the dominant feature (out-waying cotton by 80 to 20%). What this means in practice is that although remarkably well shaped and strong feeling, they tend to sweat a little in the heat, making them not massively ideal for the summer months.
That said, the retro green geometric styling is pretty awesome, and went down a treat on my visit to Monocle Magazine’s HQ to see editor Andrew Tuck.
So it’s a case of SPOTTED a fine pair of green geometric Ayame’s @ Monolce HQ in Maylebone, London ACCOMPANIED BY a pair of brown Eterno loafers. Oooh la la!
Happy socks (guest #4)
Monday, July 26th, 2010I bumped into my old uni mucker Chris L last week, and whilst having a work chinwag we got onto the subject of socks (naturally). It turns out that Chris is a bit of sock-lover too, and had recently indulged in a pair of stripey numbers from Happy Socks.
So it’s a case of SPOTTED a pair of stripey Happy Socks ACCOMPANIED BY a pair grey suede Ted Baker boots AT London Bridge.

Sock anatomy
Sunday, July 4th, 2010I was going to write that I wouldn’t be seen dead in these socks – though on second thought these are definitely the kind of socks that I would most definitely be seen dead in ; – )
Having said that, they’re kinda cool. Randomly SPOTTED in the blog of v.cool Estonian designer Anton Repponen.

Sock marriage made in heaven: English socks + Italian shoes
Sunday, June 27th, 2010It’s got to be my favorite combos – a fine pair of English socks (preferably Pantherella) served up with a fine pair of hand-made Italian shoes (preferably loafers). This weekend me and Sock Girl went to a friend’s wedding at the Royal Holloway where I was SPOTTED wearing a pair of Richard James’ finest Pantherella-made pink socks, ACCOMPANIED by a truly awesome pair of Italian suede tassled-loafers from Eterno (Conduit Street).
To finish off the combo, I was SPORTING my 80’s-tastic Ralph Lauren pinstripe suit. Possibly the finest sock-shoe-suit combo this side of the Thames : – )
